Brad We just had our first corporate request to quote on Bali. A small group ex Perth for a long weekend. I hope it is confirmed and if so will let you know. It is a fantastic destination for incentives and corporate groups. They deserve to once again have our business. It would be good if DFAT warnings were lessened because corporates are clearly risk averse.

Yes I am sure there are good parts
But this is my outlook on Bali, and I am sure that I am not alone (but I have been alone in my thoughts before)
The problem is DOUBT, there is doubt on safety, Do I want to risk it? Do I need the work that bad- No I don't need the work so I don't go.
I think this is the problem Bali is facing with it's corporate work
The question will it ever be back?
Yes, When they clean up their act, and make it just as safe as anywhere else, and remove the negative feeling that it currently has.(and the media starts putting out good feel good stories) then it will come back, and this is a problem- it may be safe, it may not be, but it doesn't feel safe, why risk it even if there is a 1% chance of something bad happening why risk it.

Sydney_magician, there are definitely two sides to Bali - the cheap bits and some superb high-end product off the main drag. Unsafe generally? I don't think so. From what I hear the destination is once more growing with European business, and things are picking up in the general travel sector from Australia. But from corporate Australia? It's anyone's guess when that may happen. It doesn't seem like corporate Australia is going much of anywhere at the present time, let alone Bali.

I get enquiries to go to Bali to perform- I say no thanks, sorry
why risk it, if you can't guarantee safety there are 100's of other places that will
My feeling of Bali- is: Cheap & Nasty and unsafe- there are plenty of cheap and nasty places that are safe out there

It takes a lot of initiative and time to organise off shore events, to complete all the plans, pay the money then have the safety of delegates questioned is not a risk that people are willing to take, when there are so many other off shore destinations that are as affordable as bali, and still offer the tropical experience. Why put your event at risk when there are much safer options out there? The only way the Bali will return to the status of a destination that is considered for events is if the terrorism and violence can come to an end. Politics will determin the outcome of the events industry in Bali, not the operators.

I believe the difficulty that many people have with Bali is how safe it is. We all believed that it was a peaceful, safe and beautiful place prior to 2 the bombings. How can a government assure us that it now is? There are so many other places to take meetings and incentive groups other than Bali, with a much stronger safety record. I really don't know how Bali will overcome this perception.

An Asian-based DMC told us this year there hadn't been a corporate meeting or incentive in Bali from Australia since the Bali bombings in 2002. Is Bali ever going to be back on the radar of corporate Australia?
