i agree with DMC. i'm seeing more concentive requests purely from FBT exempt perspective but what is interesting to see isthe amount of incentives that are going offshore compared to local...
also interesting to see what industries are engaging in travel incentives

interesting times ahead...

We have definately seen an increase of requests from the international markets for incentive groups coming to Australia over the last couple of months which is great. Local clients are still concerned with 'perception' and are holding their events witin Australia in 2010. International incentives are still 'pure' incentive programs, however local client incentive programs are more like concentives due to tax reasons.

I believe we are on an upward curve again. Strong $ and optimistic outlook will equal more travel - especially to "safe" semi exotic.

I like the "concentives" phrase too EB. But I wonder whether we really have turned the corner and the incentive travel sector is about to take off? News today of debt in Dubai and the effect that is having on our local stock exchange and those around the world probably isn't good news for the meetings and incentive travel sectors.

I think "concentives" is a great term - and quite an accurate prediction. People may book a conference and add one or two days extra to socialise and possibly to take in the local sights.
I also think that attendees will use their conference as a chance to bond with their partner. Working long hours and travelling can take its toll on a marriage so I think many attendees will look for itineraries that allow them some freedom to enjoy time together with their partner.

Will 2010 be one jam-packed with incentive programs or, as some people say now "concentives" - a mix between a conference and an incentive. Is 2010 going to see a return to pre-GFC incentive travel activity or has the sector changed for ever. What's your take on the subject?
