OK thi s year at Melbourne RSVP

Visy won an award for best small stand- I have no idea how considering all they had was cardboard cut outs and a logo. No message on what they do, and it appeared as tho they had no system to generate leads, no competitions that I could see and nothing that really caught the eye.

in fact I had to be shown where the stand was, because I walked past it, thinking it wasn't worth looking at, and the logo was so small. lets be honest- the guys making those balloon animals had larger crowds of people at their stand

No offer, nothing, No I have nothing against VISY, I just cannot work out why their stand was the winner, because it certainly had nothing to do with effective marketing or promotion.

STOP REWARDING CRAP AND START REWARDING THOSE WHO DO A GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE
OK Saw the video on how their stand is green and that you can recycle the products bla bla bla, is this why they won. Personally I would recylce that stand after that expo too, how many venues don't have chairs? and those cardboard chairs look very classy don't they (Yes I am being sarcastic) it reminds me of those party hats you get when you open the bon bons and you wear the party hat for the sake of it, but wouldn't want to be cought dead in it elsewhere.

Is the stand winning an award, or is it the idea behind the stand. The idea is good but the stand from a promotion point of view is bad. It does not engage live traffic, and from watching the video there was no system set up to gather leads. (Video is on a compeditors website so I'll link to it with permission from micespace admin)
here is the winner of the best small stand design

and of course when taking the photo- no one is even in the stand? Let me give readers a clue- to exhibit effectively first things first- you have to be in the stand
Joke awards

Well it's me again.

I have been apart of many trade shows as it is how I make part of my living. and one thing that stands out in the events industry are the winners of the awards for best stand designs

Last year in Sydney a guy giving away lots of meat pies won an award and a stand with a half naked girl in a bath tub won an award.

when I walked past the stand with the girl in the tub, I

1: Had no idea what company it was, the signage was limited
2: The sales rep asked me- "would I like to talk to the model in the tub- I said no- I was not qualified at all
3: To be honest I thought they were a model agency

a quote from the owner of the stand was
"we had a colourful stand that included a naked woman in a bath and she also gave away a year’s supply of Tim Tams to one lucky visitor.

“Some visitors were shocked to see the lady in the tub, sex sells and weird gets noticed.”

I don't mean to be rude but what are the criteria for winning an award at an events related trade show? because that is a complete joke and an insult to those companies that actually achieved mega results.

from my opinion the bathtub chick is cheap, nasty not classy and a turn off, they had no signage and you can get peoples attention in a variety of ways- you can tell them to sod off if you just want to get their attention, but the purpose is to get leads and turn them into sales- why don't the awards have anything to do with achieving results.

Here are my concerns with their promotion:
sure the chick got my attention, I am a male- but with the majority of visitors being women- why have a half naked girl???????
It got my attention- but it did not convey the message about the product- I later found that they were an event management company
No signage- at the very least- if it got my attention- why didn't I have any idea what the company was or what the company did.
The sales team (or lack of) had no idea on sales, their first point of contact was "would I like to talk to the girl?" my answer was no and I walked on
they had no idea who I was and zero qualifying, what if I had a 100K budget and was looking at organising an event with a team- bang- lost sale.

So my question is

why do these companies WIN any awards for best stand design?
