I don't think anyone will benefit, sadly!!!
As a resident of Thailand - luckily an hour outside Bangkok - I have been very saddened to see this beautiful country on the verge of collapse. Normally it always bounces back but this time I am not so sure as it is now so deeply divided. At present the trouble seems to be confined to Bangkok but I fear it could spread and already there are many rumours that the next target will be Pattaya (I am halfway between Pattaya and Bangkok in a beach resort used mainly by only Thai's).
Until this week, we have been largely unaffected but presently we are under curfew from 9pm until 5am throughout the weekend and our Shopping Centre has been closing at 6pm (Never heard of before in Thailand).
I agree with all the other Posts that unfortunately it is our beloved Industry which will suffer most and particularly the MICE market - who are generally more cautious than tourists. We have already been faced with growing competition from Vietnam and I am sure they will be using this opportunity to work really hard at getting their act together.

As CEO for B-Concept Media Entertainment Group Co., Ltd. (www.b-conceptgroup.com / www.b-conceptmedia.com) who is active, besides content distribution and broadcasting, in MICE we have seen significant drop downs in inbound corporate meetings and incentives from Australia and Europe. Actually it quite surprises us that Indian groups still keep coming in large numbers. They avoid Bangkok. They drop down from the airport in a tour bus direct to Pattaya or Hua Hin or fly direct to Phuket. Bangkok is only in the center district and in some places around there messy although today it is better controlled. The touristic areas of Thailand are not affected, Koh Samui is packed with large numbers of foreigners. Although the happenings have a major impact I believe and we have seen it before that Thailand is always lifting up quite rapidly. This has to do with the several combinations of natural beauties and excellent price and given values.

I'm sure my cancellation is nowhere near as big as cancelling a large incentive group or event but we've had to cancel our trip to Bangkok (group of 6). We were scheduled to spend 5 days in Bangkok (after 5 weeks in Portugal) to rest (and shop) before making the trip back to Sydney. I'm not comfortable taking my 2 small kids there with all the protesting (which my travel agent told me was near my hotel).

Such as shame. I love the Thai people. The large majority are peaceful, generous and excellent hosts. The real losers here are people who survive off the Tourism $$$.

Unrest in Thailand has swiftly taken Bangkok off the map for meetings and incentives. Reports are that Phuket is still an option. But is it? Did you have any groups planned for Thailand? And if so, what are you doing now? Who's set to benefit from the Bangkok unrest? Tell us your thoughts today.
