Happy to hear that LAX ex MBL route is now open for V Australia! That certainly opens up some option for our guest travel. Loving the free limo transfer for all intl business class travellers, as well.
In other flight news - Qantas upgrade Perth flights to a shiny new air-ship... Airbus 330-200 with better in-flight entertainment and snazzy new domestic business class.

Thanks for your feedback, especially for that link. Seems the value really is in Premium Economy for the LAX>BNE (or SYD>LAX) run, unless the particular Guests are picky about their sleeper seats. We've had some guests who pick their own flights (as Events suggested), and we simply pay them the balance, but while we give them a reasonable budget to work with, of course we'd rather they pick a Premium Economy seat over Business Class if we have a choice. Having said that, many hurrahs to the Australia Dollar against the Greenback!
On the other hand, QANTAS are miles ahead with business and upper class services, including their lounges, food and beverage offerings etc. I suppose V's foot forward is more to do with the new-ness of their fleet, rather than any particular bonuses on offer. I'd love some more feedback, if anyone's guests have had particularly good, or bad, experiences with either airline.
Slightly off topic: There was a twitter dialogue today about this very topic: (from @VirginBlue) RT @britneyspears Jumping on V Australia. This plane is awesome! I'll be down under tomorrow. Can't wait! - Britney (from @VirginBlue) RT @britneyspears Longest flight ever but had a great time. Really cool plane and the V staff took great care of us. So excited to be here!
If you're on Twitter, I suggest following @VirginBlue, they're constantly announcing Twitter Only or advance sale fares, DOM and INTL, and flights linked to major domestic events. Their customer service in regards to replies, response to complaints, etc is also quite encouraging and sometimes fairly entertaining.
For the record - No, I don't work for Virgin. I don't 'follow' Britney Spears on Twitter, either, but it amused me that Virgin were right on top of the free publicity. edited by melanietk on 4/11/2009

Hi Melanie I hosted a study tour of New York last year and took 50 delegates. We found it easier just to let everyone organise their own flights and start the Study Tour actually in NY. They can then attach extra days for themselves etc [which most delegates did]. We run a study tour every year somewhere in the world and find this works best. Just another option for you.

Hi Melanie, I don't know if this helps, but Conde Nast Traveler magazine ran a story in April 2009 on premium economy - here is the second page of the online article with reference to Qantas and V Australia, which comes out streets ahead of our national airline. http://www.concierge.com/cntraveler/articles/500476?pageNumber=2 Cheers, Elizabeth

I've had some mixed feedback from international attendees and guests as to which service they prefer - Business class (eg: QANTAS or QF codeshare flights) compared to V Australia's Premium Economy seating. This is to the point I've had guests ask us to cancel their QANTAS flight and get them on a V Australia flight instead (which was rather costly to do the day before departure, so they conceeded defeat in the end). I was quite surprised that they considered that better than Business Class.
Obviously when footing the bill we'd rather the cheaper option, and of course some guests have it within their contract to provide Business or First class International Flights as a minimum... But never having had the pleasure of anything but cattleclass myself, I really don't know what's so special about one over the other. On paper they're not too different.
What have been the experiences of others, either personally or feedback from international travellers, on which service is the most adequate and cost effective way to book travel between AU and USA? What would you chose for your guests, and why?
